Bayun the Cat - The Temple (feat. Mira Malska)
Music: Bayun the Cat
Poem and recitation: Mira Malska
Video: Dmytro Postovalov, Konstantin Zarubin
A musical and poetic composition from the album "Blue and Yellow through Black and Gray", which was recorded by Ambient and Experimental Music Community musicians and based on poems by Ukrainian poets, recited by the authors themselves.
Below is a line-by-line English translation and the original Ukrainian text.
This crowd won't understand you
Faceless, monotonous, and unidirectional
They won't bring flowers to your temple or monument
Their spotlights won't shine on it
They won't clear the snow in winter, won't wash away the pigeon's droppings
The rains won't wet it
You won't be depoeticized by the politicians
By hundreds of various no's from the stereotypical memory
By textbooks with your round photo
And dates with a hyphen
And biography - where you were born, where you grew up, who you fell in love with
No, they usually don't write such things - love is usually skipped
No, you won't become a classic
You won't become fashionable - know the rebel's prospect
You won't put into their heads -
Into their chandeliers with 60-watt bulbs -
Any truths that could ignite their intensity up to an explosion of evolution
To shine brighter, let my candle burn out
Their stooped concrete shoulders already can’t handle the domestic wastes from their heads
Their throats are silent
Play chords, lone brave archer
You seem to be the only one still alive here
They'll boo and spit on you as they should
They'll unleash the artillery of all their rage on you
And shoot into your vortex distraughtly
The sweetest thing is to kill those who aren't afraid of you
The scariest thing is to die without ever having breathed.
I'm proud of you, can you hear it?
Never, never will it be empty or lonely at the peak of your Olympus
I will remember
I will always remember you.
Your song will build a temple in me this time
And when I grow to the size of the universe -
When I finally learn to write like you -
I'll go to the top floor
I'll take the guitar, no, I'll rather take the ukulele
That you named Taras
And I'll play, play, play!
And every time they kill one of us
Another will wait
Another will wait for him.
